This is a marvelous piece that attempted to show how Synesthesia could be perceived and understood by someone who doesn’t have the condition. As a design example, it seems bigger than any one thing. If one heard the music separately from the visuals or vice versa it may not have worked as well, but together it becomes haunting.
People remember things in different ways, some have a propensity for sound, other smell, etc. In crafting experiences, services or products, it’s important to understand that in working for multiple senses you not only create better experiences for multiple people, you create stronger experiences as well because the layering of senses creates something wholly new, as can be seen in the video above.
